The Red Knights defeated Maple Grove in the section 6AA quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 9 in a 3-0 defensive battle. With surprising effort, Maple Grove held the second seeded Red Knights scoreless for the first 32 minutes of the game, their third longest scoring drought of the season. The Red Knights had four penalties within the first two periods, giving the Crimson plenty of opportunities on powerplays. Maple Grove suffered only one penalty the whole game, which came late in the second period, and although senior defenseman Liv Halvorson’s goal from Caitlin Reilly didn’t technically come on the powerplay, she scored one second after the powerplay ended. This put the Red Knights up 1-0 going into the final period of play. Just 1:28 into the third period, sophomore forward Kippin Keller scored with an assist from Caitlin Reilly to give the Red Knights some breathing room. The third period was dominated by the Red Knights as they outshot the Crimson 10-2. With less than two minutes left, junior forward Ali Praus scored an unassisted goal to put the game away at 3-0. Junior goalie Abbey Miller had 16 saves for the shutout.
