AMC Block E 15 theater will close this Sunday, September 23, leaving downtown Minneapolis without a theater for the first time in ten years. Last January the AMC theater lost a legal battle with building owners in regards to renewing their lease. There will be only four tenants in the building when the theater closes including a Starbuck’s and a Jimmy John’s. Original plans for the Block E building consisted of building a casino, but the builders failed to get a state sign-off. The Block E owners have decided to go forward with “Plan B,” a plan to build a 75,000 square feet office building. Details of this plan have not yet been released.
