Squeezed into half of the old Pearson’s on 50th and France, the new Minneapolis pub Pig & Fiddle brings a diverse, hearty European charm to the area. Drawing inspiration from the traditional English pub, Pig & Fiddle adds a unique, new allure to the neighborhood. “The food concept is Eastern European—it probably will morph, but we are dedicated to the pub style now,” owner Beth Schatz said.
The Polish style pierogi (dumplings) stuffed with mashed potatoes and cheese top the appetizer list as a customer favorite. Standout entrées include the classic British fish and chips, the Alpine rabbit stew, and the braised beef carbonnade with stoemp (potatoes mashed with carrots and Brussels sprouts). For dessert, the appelgebak is sure to please—a pound cake stuffed with apples with a hint of lemon. The more daring can try the chocolate stout pudding.
