Mickey Caulfield — Staff Writer

September 18, 2009
Mickey Caulfield was a reclusive Chicagoan custodian. After his death at the age of 81, in the small room that he rented, his landlord discovered his life’s work: a 15,145-page, single-spaced fantasy novel describing a little girl slave uprising on the moon, as well as numerous paintings depicting scenes from the novel. Posthumously, Mickey, who suffered from mental illness, (duh) has become a figurehead for outsider art, and his paintings are shown all over the world. His articles are taken from what can be salvaged of his work.
