The varsity boys’ baseball team took on Chisago Lakes at home and lost in eight innings 4-5 on their senior night.
The boys felt very confident going into the game. “We knew they were a good team and that we had to play a solid game, but we had just blown out St. Francis that Monday so we were going in feeling strong,” said junior Kevin Kosiek.
The boys had a strong lead in the first four innings with senior captain Brashad Johnson and sophomore Mike Juberian getting back-to-back home runs.
The Red Knights were playing a very strong game out in the field, but “our main struggle was hitting,” said senior Jimmy Kopp. “We were not getting any run support for pitcher Steve Zierke and we left way too many people on base and in scoring position. Not being smart on the bases is what hurt our team.”
The boys were supported by many fans throughout the game, especially since it was their senior night. The concessions provided free popcorn and roster pamphlets highlighting each of the seniors and displaying pictures from the season to all of the fans.
The baseball parents also had a raffle throughout the game where fans were able to win candy, shirts, hats, bobble heads, and Chipotle gift cards. “Senior night was fun, but it reminds us that high school is coming to an end,” said Kopp.
