By giving speeches and passing legislation, students in BSM’s Student Congress are simply government whizzes. But they are not the only ones: students across the state recently gathered as a congress and discussed, fought, and argued at the national qualifying tournament. “We did pretty well as a team,” said senior Nora Last, an alternate for nationals, “basically, we get legislations a week before and then we speak for and against a piece of legislation and if it should be passed. I realize that it doesn’t sound that exciting, but it’s really a lot of fun—it’s like competitive Youth in Government.”
