The cold weather and icy snow posed as a major difficulty for the Nordic ski team’s meets at Battle Creek on January 3. “It wasn’t the best of conditions for racing and the freezing cold weather was no help. It was one of the harder races that I have done,” sophomore Sam Munkeby said.

In the 5km varsity race for the boys’ team, junior Andrew Renier placed 15th with a time of 14:40. BSM’s boys’ team placed ninth out of ten teams, in a race where all teams struggled with the conditions. “I felt like I raced smart, even though I didn’t know the course. It was my first time racing there, but I finished strong. I was kind of mad that I fell down a hill, but I got 15th place, which is the last All-Conference place, so hopefully I can continue with my pace and work my way up to the top ten,” junior Andrew Renier said.

On the girls’ side Amanda Kautzer finished sixth as BSM’s highest finisher with a time of 17:18.
