If you are a student who has ever had a craving for soda during the school day, you will be pleased to hear that Taher is now serving prebiotic sodas in the cafeteria. Bloom Nutrition is a brand that specializes in a variety of gut-healthy drinks and supplements, ranging from prebiotic sodas to collagen powders. Taher introduced Bloom prebiotic sodas to the lunch room, and they have been very successful so far.
When thinking of soda, brands like Dr. Pepper or Coca-Cola come to mind, but the majority of Bloom sodas come in sweeter and fruitier flavors than typical sodas. Some of Bloom’s flavors include raspberry lemonade, classic orange, and watermelon lime. But there are also some flavors like root beer and Shirley Temple that are more similar to traditional sodas. “I actually would drink Bloom’s Shirley Temple flavor before it even came to Taher… I really like that it is healthier and sweet,” senior Emma Rudowsky said.
Because Bloom is branded as a soda, its products may be seen as unhealthy at first glance, but Bloom differs from ordinary sodas in that it is both delicious and nutritious. This new addition to BSM benefits constant soda cravers who are looking for a healthier alternative. “I really like the Bloom sodas because they make me feel like I’m being healthier rather than drinking a super sugary soda, and I will usually drink soda almost every day, so it’s a lot healthier and a better alternative,” senior Estella Tornquist said.
Although many students have shown an outward love for the soda and enjoy the flavors, some do not enjoy the new drinks. Some students also believe the new sodas may be overpriced for their value and overall taste. “They are not very good, and they’re really expensive… I tried the watermelon lime, and it didn’t taste very good,” senior Melise Wojnicz said.
When a new item comes to the lunchroom, BSM students take notice quickly. Since being introduced, the Bloom sodas have gained attention during lunch periods, with many students curious and excited to try all of the flavors. Taher’s ability to keep the menu changing can be a subtle surprise to everyone and is always great for students who tend to reach for the same items every day and want to spice up their lunch a bit. “I usually leave [school] for lunch, but I’m very jealous of my friends because they always have it and it looks so good, and I want to try it for myself soon,” senior Lucy Lohmann said.
