Benilde-St. Margaret’s is ready to get future Red Knights in the building. BSM has been hosting open houses and tours for the past few months. These tours showcase all BSM has to offer for possible future Red Knights. The admission staff has some special interns to help with this; multiple students are donating their time to be admission interns.
These student interns play a big role in running open houses. They don’t just show up to the open house and tell people about the school; they put in work for weeks, helping get everything set up. They do things like show students around the school for the day and go to their classes, help make goodie bags for youth night, and complete other tasks to show people they care about what they’re doing. The interns aren’t just there to make their college applications look good; they are there to set up the future of BSM and make an impact on these future Red Knights’ lives. “Recruiting future Red Knights and bringing in the future generation of incoming high school students. Getting to see the scope of that as well, I want to leave BSM in good hands when I leave,” senior intern Patrick Mohabir said.
Throughout their internship, students also improve their communication skills. The interns learn how to talk face-to-face with people they have never met before, teaching them valuable life skills they will be able to use in their future. During the internship, they also spend lots of time with staff at BSM, which helps them improve their relationships with them. They can utilize these connections to assist them with letters of recommendation they may need later in life for college or future job opportunities. “I would say I’m better with people now. No matter who you are, I can probably start a conversation with you. I’d say small talk has gotten a lot easier, which has been great. I would say just being able to build my relationship with the school has been another thing that I’ve been able to do,” 3-time intern Senior Harper Stevenson-Shimek said.
The next time families visit BSM, there is a good chance that one of the student interns will be walking them around the school. The work they do shows they care about the future of the Red Knights. The work the admissions interns do behind the scenes is valuable to how families view BSM and make their future decisions.
