From Friday Night Lights to 10 A.M. meets, the Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights conquered the field, the court, and the pool. This fall season, the Red Knights worked hard and performed to impress, and amazing crowds showed up to encourage the teams and passionate athletes playing their hearts out.
Swimming season kicked off in the fall with the girls, and will end with the boys’ season in the winter. In fall of 2025, the girls team concluded by sending three members to state. The tight-knit community of the swim team is hard to match. “I really like the community, so I’m excited to get back together with everyone,” sophomore swimmer Brooke Parry said.
Girls soccer was a roller coaster of ups and downs. In the second round of sections, the Red Knights faced off against Southwest in an intense game with a score of 0-0 after double overtime. The game ended with a shoot-out that went eight shots deep until the final girl on Southwest shot her ball straight into the crossbar, a devastating loss for Southwest but a rewarding one for the Red Knights. This section game marked the first time coaches had seen a shoot-out go this far in class 2A. Junior Captain Aida Parker led the team in goals, finishing the season with fifteen points. “I think we hit some bumpy roads along the way, but we really turned out in the end,” Parker said.
Spending Friday nights in the stands cheering on the BSM football team is one of a Red Knight’s favorite ways to celebrate the cool fall. This season, the BSM football team made it to state after a killer win in its section final game against the Holy Angels Stars. It ended its season with a 7 to 54 loss to Grand Rapids in the quarter finals. Despite the tough loss, captains Milo Duncan, Rob Shull, Peyton Myers, and Dylan Warner believe they had a great season, especially because of the win over Holy Angels. “I think going into this season, there’s some uncertainty, as we lost a lot of good seniors, and we didn’t really know what was to come, but Coach Anderson got a ton of guys to really believe in the process of building our team,” sophomore football player Jacob Nett said.
Aside from watching the football games, many feel that the halftime show featuring the BSM Knightettes is reason enough to pack the stands. Captains Stella Blackwood, Kali Kosek, Piper Roos, Daniela Johannson, and Taylor Winegarner led forty dancers to take center field and captivate the audience. With practices almost every night, their hard work paid off with stunning performances. “I feel having a lot of dance [practice] and focusing on the sport that you love [can] be a lot to balance,” sophomore dancer Paige Helmer said.
