The Black Phone 2 just premiered in theaters on October 17th, and it is already gaining massive attention. The movie franchise is horrifying, exciting, and largely revolves around the antagonist, The Grabber. It is definitely a movie I would recommend to a specific audience. Being a horror movie fan, I loved the movie. Although if you hate jumpscares or super gory scenes, this movie might not be for you.
After the success of the first Black Phone movie, it only makes sense that the second movie is already gaining traction. Going into the movie, I didn’t know what to expect, considering the end of the first Black Phone made it seem like there was not going to be a follow-up movie.
I personally loved the first movie, and was excited to see what they did with the storyline of the second movie, and safe to say it was a movie that I would recommend to many. The movie is based on the horrifying deaths of three kids that took place at a sleepaway camp, and quickly, the audience learns that these three kids were The Grabber’s first-ever victims.
If you watch The Black Phone 2 without previously watching the first movie, the storyline may be a little harder to follow, given that the movie includes most of the same actors.
The crazy part about the movie is that ‘The Grabber’ died at the end of the first movie, so he isn’t even alive! Instead, it’s the grabber’s spirit that lives on at the camp, and the movie is centered on his ghost and how he is haunting the narrative and the main characters.
Off the bat, this movie was insanely scary, much more terrifying than the first. At the most unexpected times there was a jumpscare, and at the times I prepared myself for a potential jumpscare, there wasn’t one. The Black Phone 2 was definitely much scarier than the original.
Not only was it a movie that gets your heart racing, but it also makes you wince at the excessive amount of blood and knives. It was so insanely thrilling, yet gory. As much as I wanted to shut my eyes and plug my ears every time the movie showed gruesome scenes, I was too invested to look away even for a second, in fear that I would miss something huge.
The movie has a unique aspect to it, which differentiates itself from any other horror movie I have watched. The certain style of filming and camera angle shots are unusual, and they provide a special and eerie aspect to the movie. Along with that, I really liked how they used the same actors from the first film, even though it’s an entirely different plot, which is unusual for a film.
In my opinion, the first movie was better than the second one, but I enjoyed the first movie so much that it would be extremely hard to top in comparison to the sequel. I would definitely recommend this movie to people who can handle horror movies. Since the Halloween season is upon us, there’s no better way to celebrate than to go watch The Black Phone 2 in theaters!
