The Boys’ Ultimate Frisbee team at BSM is in full swing this season, and they’re off to a good start. With a solid record and strong performances in recent matchups, the team is showing that its hard work is paying off. One of the biggest strengths this year has been their team chemistry on and off the field. The players have built a close-knit bond, translating into smart plays and effortless teamwork. As the season continues, the team is looking to build on its skills and keep the wins coming.
Team chemistry is a crucial part of the Boys’ Ultimate Frisbee team at BSM and plays a big role in their success. Since ultimate frisbee is such a fast-paced, team-oriented sport, having strong communication and trust between the players makes a huge difference on the field. Building this bond between the team is something that team captains junior Sam Haenel and junior Cade Hall value as a critical part of their success out on the field. Without this chemistry, the boys’ ultimate team would not flourish as they are. “For us, personally, it’s just about coming to practice and focusing on having fun each day and keeping the vibe good, and then after games going out to eat together,” Hall said.
Developing certain skills is a huge asset to the Boys’ Ultimate Frisbee team at BSM, especially for new players. Ultimate Frisbee relies on a mix of speed, strategy, and precise throwing and catching. With this in mind, it’s important to take the time to build these fundamentals, which can elevate a player’s game. For new members on the boys’ team, learning proper techniques and understanding the game can make a big difference and help them come out with strong wins. Junior Mike Aamoth highlights the importance of the fundamentals of ultimate. “It’s important to just play in a system and be a part of the team. The most important part is just to learn the fundamentals of throwing and catching. It seems pretty simple, but they’re really essential to the game as a new player,” Aamoth said.
The Boys’ Ultimate Frisbee team seems to be made up of a dedicated group of players who bring energy, focus, and wear their hearts on their sleeves. Each player has their strengths, creating a well-rounded and competitive not only team but group of young men. Something that adds to the spirit of the team is the hype leader on the sidelines. This encouragement gives the boys a supportive atmosphere that keeps the team motivated no matter the score. Not only does it boost energy for the team, but it also helps players stay “locked in”. Junior JJ Lichtenberger is considered one of the most valuable players on the team due to his ongoing encouragement of his boys. “JJ Lichtenberger is probably the most hype player who gives us energy out on the field,” Hall said.
Ultimate Frisbee can be an intimidating sport, especially with its fast pace, constant movement, and high level of teamwork required. To help calm nerves and get in the right mindset, the boys at BSM have a few pregame routines they stick to. Some stretch in front of mirrors to mentally prepare their minds for the big game ahead, while others make sure to eat specific foods they believe give them energy, help with cramping, and even bring good luck. From eating 16 granola bars before a game to doing strategic stretches in front of the mirror while reciting affirmations, the Boys’ BSM Ultimate Frisbee team set themselves up for success. “I just like to stare at a mirror for like an hour, just look myself in the eye, get ready, maybe stretch,” Aamoth said.
Ultimate Frisbee at BSM seems to be more than just a sport; it’s a brotherhood built on hard work, heart, and a shared love for the game. The team’s bond, their drive, and their passion for the game is something they hold close to them. As the season continues, one thing is clear: this team isn’t just playing to win, they’re playing for themselves and more importantly, for each other.
