The pairing of the Filet-O-Fish and Shamrock shake is a culinary work of art.

It’s that time of the year again, when fast food chains and restaurants alike begin serving their seasonal spring drinks and food items for customers to enjoy. One of the most popular seasonal menu items across the fast food market would most definitely be the “Shamrock Shake” at McDonald’s. For anyone who hasn’t tried the infamous green tinted liquid, I took the liberty to try it for you.

After waiting for a swift three minutes in the McDonald’s drive thru, a nice lady opened the window and handed me the unmistakable drink. My first impression of the springtime delight was sheer excitement; I was actually awestruck with McDonald’s presentation of the beverage. The green drink was perfectly blended and looked incredibly appetizing. After taking a long, thirst-quenching sip, my mouth watered for more. Topped with whipped cream, and served extremely chilled, the Shamrock Shake proves to be a delectable spring treat for anyone who enjoys a slightly minty and creamy dessert.

My mission at McDonald’s that day was not solely to purchase the Shamrock Shake. With Lent having started the week prior, the “Filet-O-Fish” has been heavily advertised as the superior meat substitute on Fridays. For those of you who haven’t heard or tried the Filet-O-Fish, it’s a cod paddy sandwich, drizzled in tartar sauce and blanketed with a piece of cheese. I also decided to purchase the Filet-O-Fish and review it so those who are keen on following Lent’s food related rules, but are too afraid to try it themselves, know what they might be up against.

If you are ever interested in keeping your Lenten promises while still satisfying your springtime sweet tooth, you should head to your nearest McDonald’s and buy a Filet-O-Fish and whatever size Shamrock Shake you desire.

The Filet-O-Fish is given to customers in a small cardboard box with the words “Filet-O-Fish” in bold teal lettering. The sandwich itself tastes a lot better than you may think a fast food chain’s fish sandwich would taste. The bun is nice and fluffy and the cheese doesn’t taste as fake as it looks. The tartar sauce compliments the cod very nicely as well. In conclusion, if you are ever interested in keeping your Lenten promises while still satisfying your springtime sweet tooth, you should head to your nearest McDonald’s and buy a Filet-O-Fish and whatever size Shamrock Shake you desire; it really is an odd pairing, but it works surprisingly well together.
