The BSM Football Team wrapped up their final regular season game on Wednesday, November 11 against the Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks. The Red Knights, who are 4A, were able to pull off a big win against the 5A Hawks 36-34.

While every victory is important for the Red Knights, this game had personal significance for some players making it that much more meaningful. “This game had a special meaning to me because two of my close friends are over there and I consider them my brothers. They both left BSM last year because they thought Cooper was a better fit than here and that hurts a lot when they leave like that,” senior William Petty said.

The Hawks started the game with an early 7-0 lead, but then touchdowns by both Petty and Woodford put BSM up 14-7 after the first quarter. The teams split the second quarter 14-14 making it a 28-21 Red Knights lead going into halftime. Both BSM’s and Cooper’s defenses played strong in the third quarter, both allowing zero touchdowns. The Hawks had a near comeback win in the fourth quarter scoring 13 and holding Benilde-St. Margaret’s to just 8, but it was not enough as the Red Knights went on to win with a final score of 36-34. “This was a big win to finish off our season considering Cooper has a bunch of good players. Our guys stuck to our game plan and came out on top,” senior Jonny Woodford said.

I am excited for the upcoming playoffs because our team is clicking right now and we just have to click for three more games and we will accomplish everything we wanted to this year.

Captain wide receiver Jonny Woodford and captain running back William Petty both played an impressive game Wednesday night. Woodford had 6 receptions for 189 yards and three touchdowns, and Petty added on to his long list of great games this year with 22 rushes for 113 yards and one touchdown. “It felt good to get those three touchdowns; that was my most fun and best high school performance I’ve ever had,” Woodford said.

The BSM Football Team finished the season with a 3-3 record and are now looking forward to getting prepared for sections. “I am excited for the upcoming playoffs because our team is clicking right now and we just have to click for three more games and we will accomplish everything we wanted to this year,” Petty said.
