On Sunday, February 24, the 91st Academy Awards will take place. All the stars will come together for Hollywood’s biggest night of movies: The Oscars. Nominations have been released since late January, and predictions, along with controversies, have risen throughout the media.
This year, the Oscars will have no host, for the first time in recent history. Kevin Hart, the original host, stepped down from the job after he refused to apologize for homophobic jokes he made on Twitter in 2009. This eventually led to the committee deciding to simply hold the awards with no host at all.
As always, the most highly sought after award of the night is Best Picture. This year’s nominees include blockbuster hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “A Star is Born,” “Black Panther,” and other smaller movies such as “Green Book,” “The Favorite,” and “Roma.” After being snubbed at the Golden Globes, “A Star is Born” is hoping to gain the title and is definitely a fan favorite.
Personally, we think that “A Star is Born” is going to win Best Picture and Best Sound Mixing. The acting in the movie was superior and definitely deserves to be awarded. The directing along with the soundtrack definitely make for an Oscar-worthy film.
In August of 2018, it was announced that four categories would be cut from this year’s show but which categories hadn’t been decided yet. In August, when they first came out with this announcement the public did not respond well––they respond with anger. They came back by saying that they wanted to shorten the time-“ 24 hours in three hours.” They never announced specific movies are getting cut, only the categories and this is still be processed. The week of February 4––they announced that categories that are under review or that may be cut. The categories that they are thinking about removing are Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Live Action Short, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
The show airs on February 24, at 8 pm ET live on ABC. Although this year will be different without a host, the night is still expected to be filled with surprises and memorable moments.
