BSM welcomed Good Shepherd 5th graders to our school on November 29. The kids came solely to learn about forces and test out experiments.

Orchestrated by Ms. Rachel Johnson of Good Shepherd and BSM’s Science Teachers Mr. Mark Peterson and Mr. Tanner Stevens, the “Force Festival” was born. “I was approached by one of the fifth grade teachers at Good Shepherd who said, ‘Can we bring some kids over to do some science?’ We have been working on this for about a month, trying to find the right day that works for myself and Mr. Stevens,” Peterson said.

Mr. Peterson’s Bio-med students and Mr. Stevens Physics students helped the 5th graders out with these experiments.

The Force Festival consisted of a set of seven experiments that the Good Shepherd students were able to rotate through. “It’s all about forces so we are looking at contact and non contact forces. A contact force would be like a friction. A non contact force would be magnetism. We are going to explore friction, magnetism, and gravity—those are the three big forces we are going to be exploring,” Peterson said.
