The Red Knights’ football season is in progress, with quarterback and captain Tommy Nelson leading the way. Averaging 137.2 yards per game and an overall total of 7 touchdown passes this season, Tommy Nelson has helped his team achieve their winning record of 3-2.
Having played BSM football his entire high school career, Nelson is no rookie to the sport. “I’ve been playing football as long as I can remember. Love playing it, always have,” said Nelson.
With 32 other senior boys on the team, Nelson said he gets to play his favorite sport with some of his best friends, making it that much more enjoyable. “We’re all friends on the team, and it’s great we get to hang out. We like team building, too,” said Nelson.
This Red Knight credits his fondness for football to several sources. “Being with the team makes it awesome; they’re all great. But you gotta love all the glory of winning, too. That’s one of the best parts,” said Nelson.
Nelson has acquired many unforgettable moments and experiences from his years of Red Knight football, some of his favorites being with this season’s team. “Week one of the 2010 season was such a fresh start, something I will never forget. Homecoming was great too. The atmosphere was great, perfect for a win,” said Nelson.
Even with his strong start to the season, completing three touchdown passes in the first game against Cooper, Nelson remains humble and a dedicated team player. “I am honored to be a captain this year. The only bad parts of being a football player are the Saturday morning practices after a loss,” said Nelson.
Football is not the only thing Nelson is involved with at BSM. He takes part in several other extracurriculars, including National Honor Society and other sports. “I play basketball too, but I enjoy football the most,” said Nelson.
As for his future, Nelson is uncertain what role sports will play in the rest of his life. “Not sure what I’m going to do. I’m really just trying to live in the moment right now,” said Nelson.
