BSM track team finishes well at Cooper

Yesterday, BSM girls track team dominated in their meet against Cooper and Fridley at Cooper while the boys had a strong showing, finishing third.

Some girl standouts were sophomore Hannah Horner winning high jump, and freshman Kackie Dankbar winning long jump. Captains Colleen Ruane, Susan Kenzie, and Marie Muscala also finished well in their events.

So far, the girls have had a strong start. Head coach, Mr. Porisch has high expectations for the year. “We want to compete at the True Team Sectional meet, and keep a nice tight group of girls together,” said Mr. Porisch.

The boys track team finished third, but the meet was close. “Whenever you go up against good schools like that, and you look at the scores and they are not that far off, you know you have a decent team,” said boys head coach Mr. Ola. BSM had a total of 42 points and Cooper had 48 points.

The boys had several standouts. Soren Knutson came in third in the mile with a time of 4:49. Michael Sather ran an 11:21 two-mile. John Liekhus came in first in shot-put.

“Craig Shaver had a great day,” said Mr. Ola. “He ran four events, he got third in the 800, third in the 4 by 400, and third in shot put.”

The boys’ team has a lot of new freshmen athletes and young leaders. “We have a good team but a young team,” said Mr. Ola. “In a couple years the team will be really good.
