The Red Knights celebrate after a goal during a huge win over Hill-Murray.

The BSM boys’ hockey team is having one of the best seasons that the school has ever seen, having a record of 20-0-1.  They have beaten some of the top ranked teams and are going to be put to the test when playing Wayzata and Eden Prairie in the next couple of games, both of which will be on the road.  This team is motivated to keep their undefeated season going and hopefully end their season without a loss.

“Coming into the season we felt we could do something special. We’ve worked hard this whole season and being undefeated is just something that comes with it,” said senior captain Jerry Calengor.

Having good players isn’t all that matters when having a good team.  If you don’t have good relationships with your teammates then that general success will soon begin to fade away.  “I feel like chemistry among our team is a big deal. Having an idea where your guy is going to be helps a lot. Fighting with your teammates or being angry at them will bring down the chemistry and will affect the overall play,” said Calengor.

A little fun fact: Jerry’s favorite player to play with is senior captain and defenseman, Peter Heimbold.  This ties into having good chemistry with your teammates, especially when you’re side by side when playing with each other.  “You know he’s just a good hockey player. He really shows a presence, he throws body, and [is] just an overall fun guy to play with.”

BSM will be facing some tough opponents in their next couple of games in Wayzata and Eden Prairie.  Although Wayzata and Eden Prairie are both well respected teams, the Red Knights don’t seem to be nervous.  They seem ready.  “They’re both away games and in hostile atmospheres, but we started out the season on the road, and I feel if we close out the season on the road we will be entering sections on a high note. It’s definitely a challenge we look forward to,” Calengor said.

Even though this is one of the best hockey seasons BSM has ever seen, a loss would not affect the overall atmosphere.  “No, coach has really preached about how our record doesn’t matter, it’s about improving every day. So saying that, a loss wouldn’t mean much to us, although an undefeated season would be nice, we’re not going to dwell on it.”
