Track team out to successful start; two girls compete in Hamline Elite Meet

The boys’ and girls’ track teams have gotten off to a solid start this season, in many instances blowing out their competition and working hard in the process.  On Tuesday, April 12, both boys’ and girls’ teams beat Richfield and Bloomington Kennedy in the first Metro West Conference meet.  The teams then hosted the Moore Relays on Thursday, April 21, with the girls coming in 2nd and the boys finishing 3rd.

The teams then went to Chaska for the Metro West Conference Relays on a very chilly night, where they were able to fight through the elements and the girls were able to get 4th while the boys got 7th.  Both boys’ and girls’ teams blew out Robbinsdale Cooper in a rare dual meet setting in another home meet.

For the most elite runners on the team, on Friday, April 29, Hamline University hosted its annual Hamline Elite Meet.  This exclusive competition is open only to the top competitors in each events and is comparable to a mid-season state meet.  This year BSM was fortunate enough to have two seniors, LaShauna Porter and Mae Fullerton, featured in the meet.

Senior Mae Fullerton raced in the 1600 meter run, placing fourth and being pleased with her results.  Another senior, Lashauna Porter, competed in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash.  Both of the seniors participated in the State Track Meet last year and see this meet and their high places as a highlight of their season thus far.  Both seniors were happy with how they have placed and are excited to see how the rest of the season goes.

Besides just current BSM athletes having an impact in this meet, BSM alumnus Trevor Yedoni also has a still-standing record for the high jump, which he set in 2007 while still attending BSM.
