The BSM girls’ swim team had a great meet at Section 2A Prelims on Wednesday, November 11.  The team had about twenty girls competing in this speedy meet and almost everyone made it to Finals, which will be swum on Friday.

The meet is a two-day affair with all 11 swim events being swum in both Prelims (Wednesday) and Finals (Friday).  Each team is allowed 4 swimmers per event, and the top 16 swimmers in each event from Prelims go on to Finals, where the top 8 of these compete in the Championship Final and the other 8 swimmers to receive a medal for swimming in the Consolation Final.

Overall everyone on the team did very well and dropped time, and there were plenty of notable standouts, especially in the freestyle events.  Junior Madison Semler had great swims, solidifying herself as the highest seed in the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle events going into finals.  Senior captain Celia Smithmier also had a strong showing in the 500, as she dropped 15 seconds.  Fellow senior captain Grace Hedin also has a first place seeding in the 100 yard freestyle and fourth in the 200 yard freestyle going into finals.  As for relay events, the 200 yard freestyle relay is seeded first going into finals and the 400 yard freestyle relay qualified for the Championship Final as well.

The girls also had great swims in the non-freestyle events.  One example is freshman Elizabeth Dickey, who will medal because she has made it to the Championship Final in the 100 yard breaststroke.  The girls also have swimmers competing again on Friday in IM, Backstroke, and Butterfly events.

The team has another day to rest before they swim in Section 2A Finals on Friday, November 13, at 6:00pm at St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul.
