Most famous for its Tater Tot Hautedish (pun intended), recently opened restaurant Haute Dish serves its take on classic midwestern cooking.

Haute Dish, located on Washington Avenue in Minneapolis, is known for its unique twist on Midwestern home cooking. They serve everything from classics, like their House Salad, to their famous Tater Tot Hautedish. Haute Dish has an extensive variety of options for both brunch and dinner, and they can accommodate many different food tastes whether it be carnivorous or vegetarian. Haute Dish takes daily reservations and also hosts many events throughout the year.

Landon Schoenefeld, the top chef at Haute Dish, is from Aberdeen, South Dakota where he learned his culinary skill. He has a special palate and passion for the Midwestern cooking style. Midwestern cuisine draws its roots from Central, Northern, and Eastern Europe and from Scandinavian culture. He came to Minneapolis with a dream to start a modern Midwestern style restaurant and thus Haute Dish was born.

Haute Dish serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays and has one of the most interesting brunch menus around. While they serve classics like Caramel Rolls, Biscuits and Gravy, and Brioche French Toast, Haute Dish also serves more uncommon brunch meals such as Chicken and Waffles or Breakfast Potstickers. My favorite brunch meal is the Bacon and Egg on a stick because who doesn’t love food on a stick? It’s a very entertaining way to eat bacon and eggs.

For dinner, their most popular dish is the Tater Tot Hautedish, which has porcini, short rib, green beans, and lots and lots of ‘tots’ in it. Tatertots are always an excellent decision, especially when they are mixed with other foods. Some other dishes served include Hautedish Fish and Chips, Meatloaf In A Can, Duck X2, and Pumpkin Stew. My personal favorite dinner meal is their Mac N’ Cheese, which has taleggio, king crab, celery, and truffle oil in it. It has a very rich and creamy sauce and the crab pairs well with it.

Even though Haute Dish is right on the busy street of Washington Avenue, the atmosphere inside is casual and warm. The ceilings are raised to create a more open setting and to accentuate the retro tile on the floor. Pig decorations of all sizes can be found all around the restaurant. As you walk in the front door, a giant portrait of a large, hefty man stares at you, welcoming you to Haute Dish, a moderately priced restaurant that is definitely worth a trip.
