Thank you for writing a story about BSM needing to improving the sexual education program. Not only are they depriving us of the experience to practice putting condoms on bananas, they are exposing us to the possiblity of contracting a STD or having to deal with an unwanted pregnancy. Just because we learn about sex and the proper protection in high school does not mean we are going to go out and have sex right away. If we aren't going to learn about how to use a condom and other types of birth control in a required class, when would we learn. I know that the sexual education at Benilde-St. Margaret's have improved since when my brother took it, when he was taught that you shouldn't have sex because condoms don't work, but there still needs to be a lot changes, at least in my opinion.

I agree completely! This young, Catholic woman has a valid point. Our schools have a responsibility to reinforce God's teachings, absolutely; however, we have a responsibility to prepare our children for the world they are living in now. Ignoring the fact that sex is bombarding our teens will not prepare them for a situation in which they lose control.

I can't believe people have the time to play.
As for children playing it, it's pretty sad that their parents can't teach them to grow something for real in the yard/garden. Even on a window sill.
It is good that there's no violence that's one thing but for a kid to sit passively at a screen if he/she is healthy and able to take part in physical activity, then surely persuade the kid to be active in the real world. I can see maybe the case for an autistic child to play Farmville as therapy, or a child in a hospital bed or a wheelchair, but if you are able bodied get outside and shovel snow or dig a hole and plant a tree!

President Tift,
We want to thank you for personally and professionally for having the discernment and courage to reevaluate and change your decision on Relay for Life. When the original decision came down, our family had numerous conversations about the decision, why it may have gone that way, and whether we agreed with it. We spent time drafting an initial letter to the administration voicing our concerns about that decision. We are very please to see that the voices of others with similar concerns were heard. Thank you for the job you all do, the hard calls that have to be made, and being able to see when a change of direction is the right thing to do.

You're acting as if it changes the world and all who have ever played it. It gets really boring, which is why i played for a week and quit. of you look at most of the farms, they are dead and barren from neglect.

Nice article. Way to go Meredith!

Like you, I puzzle about the allure of farmville. If you view the diversions available in the (silicon-based) cyberworld as a set of alternate realities for people who would rather spend time there instead of the carbon-based world, then I guess it's comforting that people would choose a place like farmville. The knowledge and skills learned there might be more useful back here in the carbon-based world than, say, what kind of grenade do you need to kill a Cyrillian three-toed dragon. As to turning America’s youth into a nurturing, nature-loving generation, considering the volume of traffic and the content of the alternate realities...maybe it's best if they stay there.
