The BSM boys’ basketball team is looking for a big win against Patrick Henry high school this Wednesday.

After a 10-16 record in the regular season, the BSM boys’ basketball team was given the #6 seed in the Section 6AAA Tournament.  They will be squaring off against the #3 seed, the Minneapolis Patrick Henry Patriots.

This game will be a rematch, as the Red Knights look to get revenge after a loss to Patrick Henry in the Quarterfinals of the Section 6AAA Tournament last year. “Last year coming off a tough end to the season, this year we have an opportunity to come back. As head coach John Moore would say, ‘The best form of revenge is an overwhelming victory,’” senior captain Derek Drees said.

Both teams boast impressive wins already this season. Patrick Henry has a signature win over Delano, the #4 seed in the Section.  They have also beaten the #7 seed in the Section, The Blake School, but have lost to the #2 seed Orono.  The Red Knights have a signature win against the #5 seed Waconia. The Red Knights have lost to both Delano and Orono, but both games were close and the Red Knights are confident about their chances to win if they got a rematch against either opponent.  “When the Red Knights are hitting shots you never know what is going to happen,” Drees said.  For example, they have stuck with teams like Edina, Bloomington Jefferson, and Chaska, who are all highly ranked in Class AAAA.

Our Section is loaded with talent, but as a competitor you look forward to it because you are playing against good competition every night,

Section 6AAA is loaded with talent in DeLaSalle, Delano, Orono, Waconia, Patrick Henry, and BSM, so it will be an intriguing Section Tournament to watch.  This Section Tournament is known throughout the State as the “mini State Tournament.”  Four of the top seven teams in Class AAA are in this Section. “Our Section is loaded with talent, but as a competitor you look forward to it because you are playing against good competition every night,” senior captain Will Whitmore said.

The first priority for the Red Knights will be to take down Patrick Henry.  “We are going to come out, give it our all, and expect the best,” Drees said.  If they are able to do that then they will most likely get a second chance against Orono. If the Red Knights are able to win these two key games and the seeding plays out correctly, then they will take on the juggernaut of the Section—the DeLaSalle Islanders. DeLaSalle and BSM are huge rivals and the BSM players would love to play the Islanders in the Section Championship Game.

The Section 6AAA Quarterfinal will be played on Wednesday, March 8, at 6:00 pm, at Minneapolis Patrick Henry High School.
