The BSM wrestling team works hard every day right after school, and this hard work paid off for the team at the Section 5AA Individual Meet, where senior Zach Bigelbach qualified for the State AA Individual Tournament.

On Saturday, February 25, the BSM Wrestling team got 9th Place at the Section 5AA Individual Meet, and senior Zach Bigelbach qualified for the State AA Individual Tournament.  While the team lost their first match of the Section 5AA Team Meet, losing 34-48 to Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy, Bigelbach was able to punch his ticket to State in his final season of high school wrestling by defeating other wrestlers from Minneapolis Edison, Minnehaha Academy/DeLaSalle, and Totino-Grace.  Bigelbach was fighting in the 138 lb. weight class and beat his opponents by way of the Fall or the Tech Fall in each of his three fights.

Though the team struggled throughout the regular season this year, posting a 4-15 record in their dual, tri, and quad competitions, the BSM wrestling team continues its perennial State showing with another qualifier this season.  After Jameer Anderson came out with a 5th Place finish in the State AA Individual Tournament last season in his respective weight class, Bigelbach will be looking to finish as high as possible in his 138 lb. weight class this weekend.  In the State Tournament, Bigelbach is slated for a quarterfinal matchup with Brody Schmidt of Dassel-Cokato on Friday.

The State AA Individual Wrestling Tournament will be held on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, the home of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild.
