Junior Jordan Frantz and the Red Knights look to follow a rout of Richfield with a win over their Catholic school rival Holy Angels in the Section 5AAAA Championship Game.

The BSM Football Team took on the Richfield Spartans at home in the Section 5AAAA Semifinals on Saturday, October 29.  The Red Knights were looking to knock off Richfield and get themselves a spot in the Section 5AAAA Championship between the winner of Holy Angels and Mound Westonka.

The Red Knights started off the scoring early in the first quarter, after a big sack from senior Will Hodder forced Richfield to punt. The Richfield punter had a bad punt and the ball was sitting there waiting for someone to take it.  Senior Peyton James picked it up and ran it back into the end zone, untouched for a Red Knights touchdown. “Once I saw the ball bounce, I ran to it and caught it in stride and brought it to the end zone,” James said.  This heads up play by James got the momentum swinging into the Red Knights’ direction.

The Red Knights started rolling from that point forward. With three touchdown runs from senior Ricky Floyd and a touchdown reception from senior Malachi Johnson, the Red Knights dominated the first quarter with a score of 34-0.  “I don’t think they got a first down the whole quarter and the offense would score on every possession,” James said.

The Red Knights continued their dominance in the second quarter with touchdowns from juniors Ikenna Ujuagu and Tommy Anderson.  They cruised to a 48-0 lead at halftime with their defense shutting out Richfield in the first half.

The Red Knights picked up right where they left off in the 3rd quarter with a 67-yard touchdown pass from Anderson to James.  “There was no defensive back on me so I got Tommy’s attention [and] he threw me the ball and I ran it all the way into the end zone,” James said.  The Spartans scored two touchdowns before the game was over, making the final score 55-14 in favor of the Red Knights.

This win sends the Red Knights to the Section 5AAAA Championship against Holy Angels.  The game will be played at BSM on Friday, November 4 at 7:00pm.  This will be the biggest game of the season so far and the Red Knights hope to move onto the State AAAA Tournament.  “We had a great week at practice, the whole team is dialed in, and we will look to take care of business Friday,” senior quarterback Will Whitmore said.
