BSM hosts first track meet in five years

BSM and five other schools competed in the long-awaited Moore Relays, including DeLaSalle, Fridley, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Louis Park, and Willmar. BSM girls varsity finished in second place with a score of 80 points, while boys varsity finished in third with 78 points. Points were distributed on a 10-8-6-4-2-0 basis, where the school finishing first in an event earned 10 points and the school taking last got 0 points.

The BSM boys won the 4x1600M with the combined time of 19:57.5 minutes and the 4x800M with a time of 8:33.5 minutes. As for the girls, they took first place in the 4x100M with a time of 51.2 seconds and the 4×400 with 4:17.4 minutes. The BSM girls also finished first in some field events: shot put with a combined distance of 97 ft 5.5 in and high jump with a combined height total of 14 feet, which tied the Moore Relays record.

“This was our first meet since 2009, we had beautiful weather and faculty helped in working the meet, so it made for very fun gathering,” girls’ track and field head coach Mr. John Porisch said.The BSM track and field team next meet will be the Catholic Schools Meet hosted by St. Thomas Academy on May 2nd, 2014.
